Asaan Retail allows you to keep a record of the products you purchase from suppliers & sell to customers. You can create a portfolio of your products manually in Asaan Retail.
This piece of writing is intended to explain some fundamental product attributes necessary for getting started. If you already know about these basics, you can skip to the next guide on How To Add Simple Inventory Products.
Product name
The product name in Asaan Retail is a mandatory field that must be unique. It’s a consumer-facing product attribute. In other words, a unique product name makes it an easy way for a customer to identify a product that will appear on an order invoice or purchase order. For instance, Alpine Bear Travel Bag Large is a product name for a Large Travel Bag by Alpinebear and this product name also gives this product a unique identity among competitor products.
Product SKU
A product SKU stands for Stock Keeping Unit. It is the unique identifier of a product. It can be a combination of letters and numbers and is used as an additional way to identify a product. A small Red Dragon Shirt could have the SKU ‘RS-101’. It’s a good practice to use short codes and number series in SKUs to better organize your inventory. SKUs will often stay the same for a product, while a product name can change for marketing purposes.
If your products don’t offer SKUs, Asaan Retail can help you generate them while adding a new product.
SKU is a mandatory field and helps you in identifying products across different sales channels or marketplaces.
Product Type
Asaan Retail allows you to choose from three different Product types:
Inventory product
A single product that you buy and/or sell and that you track individual quantities of will show exact quantities in each location and can be tracked in full.
Bundle product
A collection of products and/or services that you sell together as a combo. For instance, you can create a bundle as Mobile Accessories that includes a charger, a hand-free, back cover, and a screen protector.
Service Product
Services that you provide to customers or clients. For example, legal services, lawn care services, insurance services, haircut services, etc.

Product Description
After adding your product name & product SKU, you can add additional information about the product in the description field. It will help you further explain your products, their features, characteristics, size, color, etc. In other words, a description describes your product with information not available in the product name.
Barcode
A barcode, an image with black & white bars, represents a collection of numbers or characters that are readable by a barcode scanner or mobile application. This barcode image is used to identify a particular product. It allows you to enter your product info by scanning instead of typing manually. Scanning barcodes to list images increase your operational efficiency by saving human effort and time and eliminating any likelihood of wrong input.
If your products don’t come with a dedicated barcode, Asaan Retail can help you auto-generate barcodes for ease and usability.

Re-order Threshold
The reorder threshold determines the minimum level of inventory for a particular product. It showcases the minimum number of products that you must keep available to fulfill sales orders. When the stock reaches the threshold level, you will get a notification on the main notification bar as a reminder to restock the particular product.
